Spotted at Jacket Required… Chloe de Salis, Schuh

With Jacket Required all wrapped up for another season, it's time to hear from some of the buyers who joined us at the AW20 edition. We got the lowdown from Chloe de Salis from Schuh to find out what she's on the look out for this buying season.

Tell me a bit about your job role – what does a “standard” day look like for you?

No day is the same! During buying season I’ll be meeting with brands to select ranges, going to trade shows to source new brands- very little time is spent in the office. The job involves A LOT of travel so I also spend significant time in airports! There isn’t really ‘down’ time like there used to be in buying as most brands have 4 buys a year now, but when it is a little quieter I’ll be analysing sales, presenting ranges to retail teams and working with marketing on brand campaigns.

What are the trends you’re excited about right now?

I love that we are moving back towards sleeker and smarter silhouettes after a few years of the chunky trainer trend dominating. It makes it an interesting time for us as buyers as we try to decide what iteration our customer wants this new direction- what brands should we champion, what new brands play into this? It’s exciting to be looking at product with a fresh approach as we move into a new decade.

Is there a particular style that’s proving popular with customers at the moment?

Any style that is vegan, recycled or sustainable is a winner at the moment- the demand for this from customers is ever increasing. For SS20 we’ve backed some amazing sustainable brands and we can’t wait for them to land.

Why are you attending Jacket Required this season – is there anything in particular you’re looking for?

Jacket is great for me in particular as a buyer- I look after Streetwear at Schuh which incorporates a lot of skate brands/styles- it’s a great trade show for those sort of brands.

Describe your personal style.

It’s probably best summed up as eclectic. I love hunting vintage stores particularly for knitwear, and am partial to some slightly wackier pieces (my denim jacket covered with sequin dinosaurs for example.) I wouldn’t say I closely follow trends- I simply tend to wear anything that makes me smile. Of course my biggest weakness is shoes- they have their own room in my flat…

How would you describe Jacket Required in 3 words?

Inspiring, creative and curated.

Don't miss the Jacket Required reboot as we head to SW3 for the SS21 season. We'll be calling the Saatchi Gallery our new home from 22nd July 2020 - pencil it in now!
