In numerology, to increase by one order of magnitude is to multiply a quantity by 10. Such calculations are used to make approximate comparisons – so, as Jacket Required, London’s premium menswear trade show looks to celebrate its 10th anniversary edition – it’s only natural considerations are drawn in measure of the event’s transition from a niche launch, to a key must-attend date on the international buying calendar for 2016. 

For renowned industry insiders, co-founders Mark Batista and Craig Ford, who have taken the show from its first event in the summer of 2011, to the upcoming February dateline – measure and consideration very much remain rooted in their shared original vision. On the horizon of the incipient arrival of autumn/winter 2016, meticulously and quite deliberately – the show will have grown from 30 participating brands, to a line-up 10 times that amount – a selection of 300 collections – masterfully aware of its own magnitude, yet deferent to its development.

“We’re back for autumn/winter 2016. A landmark edition.” says Craig Ford. “The next event will be the second show presenting our new expanded layout and floor plan at The Old Truman Brewery. Having received such a positive response from exhibitors, buyers and press alike last season, we’re moving forward with the same concept, of course presenting our continued cohesive aesthetic but with a fresh feel we can’t wait to share.”

Shoreditch’s Hanbury Street will again welcome the prestigious members of the fashion elite to two floors showcasing the very best product available in the modern menswear market. “2016 marks the sixth year for Jacket Required – and, collectively for Craig and me, 50 years in menswear,” says Mark Batista. “It’s fair to say we have a multifaceted approach to the industry so, for us, the show is a culmination of everything we’ve learnt along the way, bringing together our knowledge and indeed the people we’ve forged relationships with to build a community, all working towards the same goal.”

Continuing to offer its unique point of difference, brands are hand-picked and curated with confidence, in the same way the respected visiting buyers select for their stores. In an ever changing retail landscape, there is no question of compromise – a concept which remains the exhibition’s cornerstone. For the autumn/winter 2016 edition, like-minded international labels including returning brands La Paz, Red Wing, Gant Rugger and Human Made join newcomers such as Padmore & Barnes, Pike Brothers and Grind London – all chosen to complement each other and the event’s inherent identity. Woven throughout the space, sportswear, streetwear, casualwear, tailoring, outerwear, footwear, accessories and an expanded offering of lifestyle product sit strong – side-by-side, going from strength-to-strength, season-upon-season.

And so, as an object's magnitude itself, its extent is a ranking of the class of objects to which it belongs – it’s a testimony to the team behind Jacket Required that its brands, buyers and members of the press have all continued to uphold the show’s original spirit and collective statement. In turn, what has been created is just more than a trade show – it is a family, all akin, and all belonging to each other.
